Description
MycoGro® Hort is an arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi product developed in New Zealand for the New Zealand horticulture and nursery industries.
Around 80% of the world's plant species form associations with these types of Mycorrhizae. These beneficial fungi greatly increase the
effective rooting area of plants thereby enhancing plant growth, vigorous water uptake, nutrient availability, flowering, yields and
production. MycoGro® Hort can be used at all stages of propagation, planting and with compost application. It can be applied
directly to the root zone or blended into the potting mix or compost. It is beneficial for a wide range of ornamental plants including but
limited to pittosporum, kiwifruit, grapes, pip fruit, stone fruit, nuts, avocado, lettuce, chilli and tomato. Plant families that cannot be
colonised with arbuscular mycorrhizae include Brassicaceae, Amaranthaceae, Lupinus, Caryophyllaceae and Cyperaceae.
When used with maize, mychorrhizal fungi put down the spout with seed, some farmers results have shown it to be more effective than using
DAP down the spout. The reason being that mycorhizal grows into the roots and enables the uptake of nutrients directly form the soil
by effectively increases root mass by up to 300%. While chemical fertilisers can burn the roots of newly germinated plants, the fungi, by
contrast, form a symbiotic relationship with the new plant. Mycorrhizae are usually destroyed by the processes of preparing the soil as a
seed bed, thereby limiting the potential of the crop. If fertiliser is added when the soil is prepared and MycoGro Hort added
at one gram per seed, this can enhance nutrient uptake significantly. MycoGro Hort is suited to all crops, the use of chemicals or disturbing the soil can be highly detrimental to
beneficial fungal populations and mycorrhizae are particularly vulnerable. MycoGro Hort will have a symbiotic relationship with the microbes in em soil and crops.
